Classic M&M Cookies are a nostalgic favorite that combine the buttery texture of a traditional cookie with the playful crunch of candy-coated chocolates. Using a mix of brown and white sugar, these cookies turn out soft in the center with golden edges, and the vibrant M&M's add a delightful pop of color and sweetness. They’re simple to make and loved by both kids and adults alike.
Ingredients
-
1 cup shortening
-
1 cup brown sugar, packed
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
2 eggs
-
2 tsp vanilla
-
2 ¼ cups sifted flour
-
1 tsp baking soda
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 ½ cups plain M&M's
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing until fully combined.
Stir in ½ cup of the M&M’s.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Gently press a few of the remaining M&M’s onto the tops of each cookie for a colorful finish.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
Let cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Recipe Note
- For softer cookies, slightly underbake and allow them to finish setting on the baking sheet.
- Swap in seasonal or peanut M&M’s for a fun twist.
- You can use butter in place of shortening for a richer flavor, but the texture will be slightly different.
- Cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 week or frozen for longer storage.
